Ambala: Suspended Haryana cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Ravi Kant Sharma
on September 27 blamed a section of the media for describing him as an "absconder",
saying he was only using his legal right since the time he went on leave on August 2.
Talking to reporters after his surrender in the court of chief judicial magistrate
Sarita Gupta in Ambala, Sharma charged the media with "misreporting" and describing
him as an absconder.
"To apply for anticipatory bail was my legal right. Only after exploring my options
for bail I could think of surrender," he said.
"It was unfortunate that the press described me as an absconder and also put out a
number of stories about me," he said.
Asked if Union Communications Minister Pramod Mahajan was also involved in the
murder of Shivani Bhatnagar, as was alleged by his wife Madhu or the case was
politically motivated, Sharma did not give any reply. Mahajan has already rejected
the allegation.
A tense looking Sharma said that present events "are a game of destiny".
He declined to say anything about his whereabouts during past about two months.
