'Guj riots exposed India's false claims of secularism'
Saturday, September 28 2002 15:41 Hrs (IST)

Musharraf again takes to India bashing Islamabad: Using Gujarat violence as a ruse, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on September 28 charged that the riots exposed India's "false claims" of secularism and proved "beyond doubt" the relevance of the two-nation theory.

"The two nation theory has been proved beyond doubt after the fanatic acts of Hindu extremists," he said addressing a seminar on Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the ideology of Pakistan in Islamabad.

He said Gujarat riots also exposed the "false claims" of India as a secular state, according to the official APP newsagency.

On September 27, he said attack on Swaminarain temple was the fallout of the Gujarat communal riots.

In his lecture on September 28, the military ruler said, "Genuine and sustainable" Democracy would be restored in Pakistan after next month's general elections.

"With the introduction of genuine Democracy, there would be no loot and plunder, and the elected government will concentrate its energies on development and betterment of the masses," he said.

Musharraf urged the people to work hard for the progress and prosperity of the country and concentrate on the character building of younger generation.

"The ideology of Pakistan," he said, "must be disseminated in an organised manner in our educational institutions".
