New Delhi: It was a day of high-drama as the suspended IPS officer Ravi Kant Sharma,
the prime suspect in Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, was produced before the
Karkardooma courts on September 28, ending months of anxious wait by the police and
media.
Sporting a light blue check shirt and pale cream trouser, a frail looking Sharma was
brought to the court around 14:55 hours (IST), five minutes before the deadline
given by the Ambala court was to end, amid unprecedented security arrangements.
R K Sharma's wife Madhu and daughters Pragati and Komal stood silently through the
proceedings in the courtroom jam-packed with lawyers, police and reporters.
Duty-bound cameramen and savvy onlookers, wanting to have a glimpse of Sharma, had
placed themselves in vantage points much before he was produced in court.
As soon as the Tata Safari carrying him entered the court premises they jostled with
each other to see him and take the best possible shots.
Though arrested, the 50-year-old Haryana cadre IPS officer, appeared in no mood to
give in and told the court that the police was hounding and harrassing him.
As the prosecution opposed his family members' plea to allow them to supply home-
made food to Sharma, the defiant police officer raised his voice once again and said
he had had a horrible experience while in transit from Ambala to Delhi.
"I was not even allowed to visit the bathroom and was told that I could have lunch
at 5.00 PM," he said.
"They should provide me food - the food that I want," the former Haryana IG Prisons
fumed.
