Sringar: With just two days left for third phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir, militants attacked a police party sanitising an area for a National Conference rally killing one person and injuring 13 others, including a police officer and four constables in Pulwama district on September 29.

Militants lobbed a grenade on a police vehicle in crowded Tral bus stand area around 13:00 hours (IST) and followed it by firing on the security personnel, they said.

The policemen retaliated and in the exchange of fire, which lasted for a while, a civilian Mohammad Abu Wani was killed and 13 others including SHO of Tral Asi Abdul Ahad and constables Mohammad Maqbool, Mohammad Shafi, Ali Mohammad and Darbari Singh, were injured.

No militant group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
