Jammu: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed in firing by Pakistani troops
along the international border (IB) in R S Pura sector in Jammu division even as
troops were maintaining strict vigil following reports of possible infiltration bids
by militants on the eve of third phase of J&K elections, a BSF spokesman said on
September 30.

Pakistani troops fired on a BSF party, which was on a routine patrol in Budwar area
on September 29, killing Lance-Naik D Puttaswamy of 143 BSF batallion, he said,
adding that BSF troops retaliated and the firing exchange continued for some time.
Intermittent exchange of firing was reported at several places along the IB in Jammu
and Kathua districts since September 29 evening.
However, no loss of life or property was reported.
BSF troops were maintaining strict vigil along IB to foil infiltration bids in view
of reports that some militant groups were waiting across the border to cross over to
Indian side to cause disturbances on poll eve, the spokesman said.
