The condition of 11 persons out of 48 undergoing treatment in various hospitals in
the state capital continues to be critical, sources said, adding that some of them

About 17 people were killed and at least 44 injured in the stampede on September 28
when thousands of people were returning hours after attending a massive Bahujan
Samajwadi Party (BSP) rally.
Police and railway officials said that the stampede was caused by people tripping
over each other while descending the stairs over platform seven and also after three
people were electrocuted triggering panic.
Meanwhile, principal secretary (planning) Subodh Nath Jha, who is conducting an
inquiry into the tragedy, visited the station on September 27 evening for an on-the-
spot assessment and met senior state and railway officials.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in and around the Charbagh railway
station in view of the proposed demonstration by the Congress in the state capital.
Police had been deployed in strength to ensure better control over the crowds,
sources said, adding that security personnel have also been summoned from the
neighbouring districts for this purpose.
