Islamabad: US Assistant Secretary of State Christina Rocca on October 1 discussed
the Indo-Pak tension and issues of bilateral relations with Pakistan President
Pervez Musharraf during an unscheduled meeting in Islamabad.
Rocca, who arrived in Islamabad from Karachi on October 1, held talks with Musharraf
after an hour-long meeting with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Inamul Haq and
Foreign Secretary Riaz Kokhar, state media reported.
Indo-Pak tension was the focus her talks with the military ruler, it said, adding
they also discussed Pak-US bilateral relations and the situation in
Afghanistan.
"Both sides agreed on the need for early resumption of dialogue between Pakistan and
India," the Pakistani Foreign Office said.
Rocca arrived in Karachi after a four-day visit to India. She reviewed security
situation in the Southern port city and the plans to relocate the American consulate
there.
Islamabad was not on her original itinerary, but she changed her plans at the last
minute and arrived in Islamabad.
On September 30, Haq told reporters that the US Secretary of State Colin Powel
informed him recently that India would start dialogue process after the elections in
Jammu and Kashmir.
Rocca's visit follows after United States and Pakistan openly differed over the
increase in infiltration of militants across the Line of Control (LoC) into India.
