New Delhi: A Delhi court on October 1 issued non-bailable warrant (NBW) against
underworld don Abu Salem, who is accused of running an organised crime syndicate for
extorting money from businessmen in the capital.
Special Judge Prem Kumar issued open NBW against the don giving unlimited time to
Delhi police to execute it.
The court also allowed Special Cell of Delhi Police to take help of CBI in
extraditing the gangster from Portugal capital Lisbon, where he was arrested by the
Interpol in September.
The court permitted the police to supply the copies of FIR, chargesheet, CFSL report
on the voice identification of Salem, audiocassettes containing the intercepted
conversation
of the don with his associates and victim and statements of witnesses, in the case to
CBI to initiate the extradition process.
Delhi police had arrested five associates of Salem including a woman in May 2002 for
conspiring with the don to extort money from a city-based contractor.
The accused Pawan Kumar Mittal alias Raja Bhai, and Babu Bhai (both residents of
Delhi) Majid Khan alias Raju Bhai, Mohd Ashraf alias Babloo and Chanchal Mehta,
woman associate of Salem were chargesheeted under Maharashtra Control of Organised
Crime Act (MCOCA) in the case.
The CFSL report in the case had ascertained that Salem had threatened the contractor
and was demanding Rs five crore in extortion.
The report had confirmed that the taped voice was identical to that of the don.
