Jammu: Army on October 2 foiled a major infiltration bid gunning down four heavily
armed Hizb-e-Islami militants after a six-hour battle near the line of control (LoC)
in Mandi area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.
On a tip-off, troops observed movement of a group of heavily armed infiltrators who
after crossing over had penetrated deep into Indian territory in Mandi area, they
said.
The Army personnel cordoned off the area and challenged them following which the
militants hurled grenades and opened fire.
An encounter followed in which the four militants were killed.
AK rifles, two rocket launchers, five pistols, 13 magazines, 900 pistol rounds,
eight hand-grenades, four stick bombs, two wireless sets, three improvised explosive
devices (IEDs), two anti-tank mines and some explosive material were recovered from
the encounter site, the sources said.
