Srinagar: In the second attack on the Border Security Forces (BSF) in as many days,
militants triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) on October 2 morning near
Tral township of South Kashmir's Pulwama district killing five jawans, police
sources said.
Militants exploded the IED in Pashtuna village at 08:00 hours (IST) when a BSF
patrol vehicle was passing through the area. Five jawans were killed on the spot,
However, the number of injured could not be ascertained as yet, the sources said.
On October 1 evening, militants triggered an IED at Awantipora area of Pulwama
district killing seven BSF jawans on the spot. They were returning to their camps
after performing poll duties.
In another attack, three persons, including a sarpanch, were reportedly killed by
militants early on October 2 at Haihama village of South Kashmir's Kupwara district,
police sources said.
The sarpanch has been identified as Mohammad Yousuf Dar while the other two,
believed to be National Conference (NC) workers, were yet to be identified, they
said.
However, residents of the village alleged that the three were called to a security
camp on October 1 night and might have been killed by the security forces.
Meanwhile, the residents of the area have staged a march towards the district
headquarters to protest the killings, police sources said, adding that the local
officials were trying to persuade the demonstrators to disperse to avoid any further
law and order problem.
