New Delhi: The report of the Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) was presented to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, who is also the chairman of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) after its tour of the delta and catchment areas in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The report was submitted to the Prime Minister's office and the Supreme Court by the Union Water Resources Ministry, ahead of the hearing in the apex court on October 4 on a contempt petition filed by Tamil Nadu against Karnataka on the issue of water release, official sources said.

It was presented a day after the committee met in Chennai and its chairman A K Goswmai said issues relating to sharing of the river waters in a distress situation were "sorted" out.

Meanwhile, Union Water Resources Minister Arjun Charan Sethi dismissed as "baseless" the charge by Tamil Nadu that the Centre was siding with Karnataka on the vexed issue.

Tamil Nadu filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court against Karnataka accusing it of failing to release Cauvery water in accordance with the directions of the apex court and the committee.
