190 taken ill, 11 cases of cholera confirmed in Guj

Ahmedabad: Two children died and 190 people were taken ill due to vomiting and diarrhoea even as the epidemic spread to seven villages in Vadodara district with 11 confirmed cases of cholera, officials said.

"Eleven cases have been confirmed of cholera out of 190 people taken ill in seven villages under Padra taluka", district health official N K Chopra told reporters over phone from Vadodara on October 3.

He said of "the two children dead, only six year-old Bhailal Dayabhai from Abhor villagu died of cholera while another 11-month old infant died of fever and vomiting".

Earlier in the day, district development officer A B Panchal said confusion prevailed over the death of two women in Abhor village on October 2, as they did not take any medical advice.

Besides the hamlets of Sapla, Abhor and Masar, which have been declared cholera hit, diarrhoea epidemic has been reported from Karjant, Masar, Netra and Dalani, Chopra added.
