Jammu: Two militants involved in the attack on a bus at Hiranagar on October 1, were
shot dead along with 10 other ultras in separate encounters which also left two
personnel, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and an Army officer, killed in
Jammu and Kashmir since October 2 night.
Nine security men including five CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel were
also injured in militancy related violence in the state, official sources said on
October 3.
After a night-long operation at Hiranagar in Kupwara district police shot dead two
Lashkar-e-Toiba militants identified as Abu Talah and Abu Usman who carried out the
attack on a Delhi-Jammu tourist bus during the third phase of polling for J&K
elections killing five persons in the area.
DSP Jagtar Singh, who led the team of police and Special Operartions Group during the
operation, was killed and two constables Rupinder Singh and Ghulam Qadir were injured
in the encounter.
Giving details of the operation Inspector General of Police, Jammu, P L Gupta told
reporters it was launched on October 2 evening on a tip off that the militants were
hiding in dense bushes of Jandi, and continued till 11:00 hours of October 3.
DIG Dilbagh Singh said the militants after carrying out strikes during polls were
trying to go back to Pakistan.
After the encounter body of one militant was removed but the other had explosives
tied around it, which had to be defused by the bomb disposal squad.
