Tezpur (Assam): Air Commodore P K Borbora on October 3 said that the MiG-21 fighter
aircraft would be replaced in the next four years with fifth generation aircraft
like Sukhoi-30.
''Indian Air Force (IAF) has already purchased fifty Sukhoi-30 aircraft and another
50 per cent of the aircraft against the targeted 150 aircraft will be jointly
manufactured with Russia,'' Borbora told visiting journalists from different states
of the North East on the occasion of the 70th Air Force celebrations at Tezpur IAF
station.
He said that the new fighter jet aircraft would be jointly manufactured by India and
Russia with the latest avionic technology.
Borbora said that the MiG-21 was presently utilised for training pilots having the
highest 340 km speed landing capacity.
