Srinagar: National Conference president Omar Abdullah on October 3 said the world
community had seen people's enthusiasm in the on-going Assembly elections in Jammu
and Kashmir and hoped this would result in a lot of pressure on Pakistan to end its
proxy war against India.
Addressing election meetings in Doda district going to polls on October 8, Abdullah
attacked Congress blaming it for most of the ills plaguing the country today.
Abdullah, Minister of State for External Affairs, said the people, by maintaining
the spirit of brotherhood, would teach a lesson to those trying to divide the state
on the basis of caste, creed or religion.
Lashing out at Congress, he said the problems faced by the state were a
manifestation of wrong policies of previous Congress governments at the
Centre.
He alleged Congress by its manipulative politics had run the state through puppet
governments.
Attacking state Congress chief Ghulam Nabi Azad, the NC president said he should
have jumped into the electoral fray to prove his credentials as a representative of
the people of the state.
"I dared Azad to contest from any Assembly constituency but he preferred to play
safe. He knows he will lose his security deposit as he did 20 years ago," Abdullah
said.
Promising to provide amenities to the people of the mountain-locked Doda if voted to
power, he said he would promise only what he could implement.
He said he had a new agenda and fresh and modern ideas to transform the state.
