New Delhi: A Delhi court on October 3 remanded Ved Prakash alias Kalu, one of the
accused in the journalist Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, to police custody for five
days.
Metropolitan Magistrate J P Narain before whom the accused was produced remanded him
till October 8.
Seeking 14 days police custody of the accused, arrested from Shivmorthi on the
Gurgoan road, special public prosecutor S K Saxena told the court that it was
necessary to recover the camera taken away by co-accused Pradeep Sharma from
Shivani's flat after her murder.
Claiming that Ved was part of the conspiracy hatched to eliminate Shivani, Saxena
told the court that the accused was present in two meetings with the co-accused
where in the plans were chalked out and later executed.
He said the custody of Prakash would enable the police to confront him with Ravi
Kant Sharma, senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and prime suspect in the
murder who was already in police custody.
However, defence counsel opposed the prosecution move saying there was no substance
in the prosecution case.
