Srinagar: A British Parliamentary delegation during a visit to Jammu and Kashmir
after the completion of the third phase of polling has held talks with the
authorities but ignored the separatists in an apparent departure from the usual
practice of all foreign delegations.
The seven-member team, which arrived in Srinagar on October 3, held talks with
Governor G C Saxena, chief secretary I S Malhi, director general of police A K Suri
and corps commander of Srinagar-based 15th Corps V S Patankar, official sources
said.
However, the members of the delegation did not meet any separatist leader, an
apparent departure from the usual practice of all foreign delegations.
The delegation did not meet any mainstream political leaders either during its short
stay, the sources said.
Although officials maintained silence about what transpired between the members of
the delegation and authorities, informed sources said they discussed the three-phase
elections in the state.
The delegation comprised Baroness William Sherlly, Martins Rabi Filomeno, Jenkins
Arch Baldian, M Lamb Norman Peter, Dholaki-Naunit, Dholakia Ann and Simpson Grogory
Goseph.
