Chennai: A designated judge on October 4 extended the remand of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) chief Vaiko, who was detained under Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTA), upto October 9.

Accepting the prosecution request for extension of remand for eight others, the POTA court judge Rajendran extended the remand of others upto October 28, MDMK spokesman N Nanmaran said.

Vaiko was detained on July 11 last under POTA for making a pro-Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) speech in a public meeting at Thirumangalam, near Madurai, while others were arrested earlier.

Vaiko will be completing 90 days in prison on October 9.
