Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on October 5 termed as "regrettable"
Karnataka's refusal to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu but at the same time
blamed Tamil Nadu government for the present situation.
Though Karnataka's storage position had to be taken into consideration, its stand on
the issue was regrettable, DMK president M Karunanidhi told reporters.
Criticising the Tamil Nadu government on the issue, he said, "Unnecessary utterances
and failure to maintain cordial relationship with the neighbouring states by Tamil
Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has led to the present situation."
Alleging that Tamil Nadu government's action was "unilateral' and that the
government had failed to arrive at a consensus on the issue, he said in Karnataka,
even the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) there was being taken
into confidence by Chief Minister S M Krishna on the issue.
Ridiculing the stand of AIADMK in Karnataka on the issue, he said the AIADMK MLA in
Karnataka Assembly, Bakthavatsalam, was part of the all- party delegation which met
the Prime Minister to convey Karnataka's position on the issue.
He said DMK would support the agitation by the Tamil film industry at Neyveli on
October 12, demanding stoppage of power to Karnataka from Neyveli Lignite
Corporation (NLC) power plants. However, he did not know how it could be done. "If
it is rail roko or road roko, it could be implemented. How are they going to stop
power supply?" he asked.
