Busan: The Indian football team on Saturday crashed out of competition in the 14th
Asian Games after Bahrain scored a 5-0 win against Palestine to move into the
quarter-finals on a better goal difference.
Bahrain had a ‘5 goal difference compared to India's 3’ following Saturday's victory
in Group ‘D’ and the team progressed to the last eight stage as one of the two best
second-placed teams. North Korea was the other team to advance to the quarters as
the best second-placed team from Group ‘F’.
India's hopes hinged on the result of the Bahrain-Palestine match after it had
suffered a defeat to China in the last league of Group ‘C’ match following victories
against Bangladesh and Turkmenistan.
Bahrain and North Korea will join the winners of the six groups in the quarter-
finals.
