9 ultras, 2 securitymen among 12 killed in J&K

Srinagar: Nine ultras and two security personnel were among 12 people killed in unabated militant violence in Jammu and Kashmir, where 10 kg of RDX and some arms and ammunition were recovered since October 4 evening, an official spokesman said on October 5.

Three ultras and a security personnel were killed in a gunbattle at Hunoora- Dangiwacha village in Baramulla district of North Kashmir on October 4 evening, he said.

Two other militants, one of them owing allegiance to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba, were killed in separate encounters with security forces at Chanapora and Takya Yousuf Shah in the same district, the spokesman said.

A civilian was injured in the shootout at Chanapora.

A militant identified as Rana Nazir Iqbal, code Mahsin, was killed in an encounter with security forces at Chhonga area of Poonch district on October 5, he said.

Two Pakistani nationals, Abu Syed Mullan and Syed Abid Shah, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chasana area of Reasi in Udhampur district on October 4 evening, he said. A Pakistan-occupied Kashmir militant, Javid Ahmad, was killed in a gunbattle with a joint party of police and security forces at Amderpora- Vilgam village in Kupwara district on October 4 evening.

A security personnel was killed in an exchange of fire with militants at Kanghar in Marmat sector of Doda district on October 4. Militants gunned down a civilian, Hayat Mir, at his native village Urpash-Ganderbal in Srinagar on October 4 night, he added.
