Modi begins 'gaurav yatra', vows to root out terror
Saturday, October 5 2002 15:36 Hrs (IST)

Ambaji (Gujarat): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on October 5 resumed the fourth leg of his much talked about 'gaurav yatra' with a renewed assertion to stamp out terrorism from the border state.

Modi, who piloted the yatra to "highlight Gujarat's pride", in his spirited speech lashed out at Congress and pseudo-secularists for "defaming Gujarat and the Hindu community".

The Chief Minister said, "Post-Godhra violence would not have taken place if they had not defamed the karsevaks."

Modi said Congress leaders were hell-bent on playing vote-bank politics and have been talking the language of Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf.

He said identical letters recovered from two slain terrorists who stormed into Akshardham temple had the "same language as spoken by Congress leaders and Musharraf himself".

Modi accused Congress of "failing to live up to its role of a responsible Opposition" and said it was an unfortunate matter for Gujarat.

Addressing women, gathered to attend "mahila sammelan" on the foothill of Arasur Hills, on which Ambaji temple is located, Modi listed out a number of developmental works undertaken by his government for their uplift, especially in education sector.

He lamented that Congress party has not been sincere enough even in ensuring 33 per cent reservation for women in state Legislatures and the Parliament.
