Chennai: Tamil Nadu unit of Janta Dal-Secular (JD-S) on October 5 said it would soon
organise agitations in all the districts of the state, demanding immediate release
of Cauvery water by Karnataka.
JD-S' Tamil Nadu unit president C Balaraman told reporters that it was "highly
condemnable" that Karnataka government was defying "even supreme court judgments".
He said though JD-S had been supporting Tamil Nadu government's stand on the issue,
it was regrettable that his party was not invited by the state government for the
all party meeting convened by it.
He appealed to the state government not to scrap the free power scheme to farmers.
Meanwhile, volunteers of the student wing of the Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) on
October 5 burnt the effigy of Ranjikant in Saidapet area in the city, for his appeal
to "reconsider" the film industry's decision to take out a rally in Neyveli on
October 12 on the Cauvery water issue.
Elsewhere in the city, fans of Ranjikant expressed their anger over the actor's
appeal and expressed confidence that Ranjikant would surely participate in the
Neyveli rally.
"He will not do anything which will go against the interests of Tamil Nadu," the
fans said.
