Independent candidate escapes bid on life in JK

Jammu: Two days ahead of the fourth and last phase of polling, an independent candidate Abdul Hafiz Wani on October 6 escaped a bid on his life when militants fired at his motorcade in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

No one was injured in attack which took place around 09:45 hours (IST) at Dosa-Pati when Wani was on way to Kensa village from Bhaderwah to attend an election rally, official sources said.

Militants appeared on hill tops and fired on his carcade, they sources said.

Wani later reached Kensa and attended the rally.

In another incident, militants lobbed a grenade on security personnel near Town Hall in main town at 11:00 hours, which missed its target and exploded in a drain without causing any damage, the sources said.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search for the militants.
