Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna on October 6 declared that the state
government was ready to face another legal battle on the Cauvery issue, in the wake
of his counterpart in Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa's decision to file another contempt
petition against the state.
"Our legal battle will continue on one hand. On the other, our decision not to
release water will also continue," Krishna told reporters, a day after Jayalalithaa
lashed out at Karnataka for what she called "roguish conduct" in not releasing water
despite the Supreme Court directive and said another contempt petition would be
filed.
Krishna also dismissed reports that several MLAs and MPs from the state had offered
to resign on the Cauvery issue, saying there was no need for it nor was there any
such proposal.
Denying any political motive in his decision to undertake the "padayatra", Krishna
said his only concern was that peace should prevail and appealed to all to join in
his mission.
"Hailing from that region, I am only trying to pay back my debt and also punish
myself."
In a statement, Krishna said he was going on the padayatra on behalf of all parties
and there was definitely no intention whatsoever to gain any political mileage out
of it.
Appealing to Opposition parties not to misconstrue his move and to support him
wholeheartedly, he said the one and the only goal of his yatra was peace.
