Naidu moots disinvst for revival of sick industries
Sunday, October 6 2002 17:46 Hrs (IST)

Sambalpur (Orissa): BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu on October 6 advocated disinvestment and said it was a must for revival of sick industries.

Disinvestment was also essential for creation of proper infrastructure among other benefits Naidu told a press conference.

He emphasised that BJP's thinking on the issue was in line with that of the NDA.

The former Union Minister called for a responsible attitude from all sides to expedite the country's economic growth.

"Everybody needs to have a responsible attitude towards development and governance. More capital flow, both in the private and public sector is needed to eradicate poverty and unemployment," Naidu said.

Pointing out that an eight per cent growth rate had been fixed for the tenth plan, the BJP chief said one would have to rise above party considerations to achieve this target.

On the issue of sharing of river water, Naidu strongly supported the idea of linking rivers to find a solution to the vexed problem. He said the Centre and state governments should ponder over the concept.

"BJP welcomes such a move and will work towards reaching a broad based consensus on the issue through participation of people," Naidu said.

The BJP president however refused to directly comment on the controversy over the Cauvery issue, as the matter was already in court.
