Vadodara: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar on October 6
charged Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna with "trying to create Constitutional
crisis" by not obeying the order of Supreme Court on the Cauvery water issue.
"It (Krishna's stand) can lead to invoking of Article 356 for imposition of
President's rule in that state," Pawar told reporters.
He hoped that the Central leadership of Congress would find out some amicable
solution to the problem.
Water is becoming grave issue and in absence of proper water distribution policy, it
can create various hassles, which would not be in the national interest, the NCP
president said.
On the issue of disinvestment, Pawar said he is opposed to disinvestment in major
oil companies like HPCL and BPCL and said those public sector undertakings (PSUs)
making profit should not be privatised.
He also demanded "review" of the economic reforms policy saying neighbouring country
China opted for disinvestments "after thorough discussion on the subject".
Criticising US for adopting "double standard" on the issue of fighting terrorists,
Pawar said, "It (the US) is supporting Pakistan despite the latter's support to
cross border terrorism in Kashmir."
The completion of three phases of polling in Jammu and Kashmir proves that people of
the state have preferred ballot and not bullet and entire world has praised holding
of free and fair polls there, Pawar added.
