Centre considering steps to ban child labour

New Delhi: Centre on October 7 said it was contemplating steps to ban child labour and is evolving a national policy on children with emphasis on their development, survival and protection.

The Labour Ministry is designing a masterplan for imposing a ban on child labour and rehabilitation and training of slum children, Union Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma said inaugurating the World Children Summit.

The ministry has identified emancipation of slum children and saving them from the clutches of child labour as one of the priority areas, the minister said.

Minister of State for Communication Sanjay Paswan promised all facilities of the Department of Information and Technology for strengthening child education methodologies.

A large foreign delegation including Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina Jelico Jejbotovic, High Commissioner of Mozambique Carlos Agostino and secretary general of Asian African Legal Consultative Committee Wafik Kamil present at the seminar sought India's co-operation in resolving problems of child development in their country.
