Mumbai: Mumbai High Court on October 7 ordered film actor Salman Khan to pay interim
compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the person killed in the mishap involving the actor's
Toyota Land Cruiser.
Justice Ajit Shah and Justice Ranjana Desai also ordered the actor to pay Rs 3 lakh
to the seriously injured and Rs 1.5 lakh to the persons who sustained simple injury
in the accident.
Salman had allegedly rammed his vehicle into a bakery at sub urban Bandra on
September 28, killing one person and injuring four others.
The High Court direction was given on a public interest litigation urging for
compensation to victims and applicability of law in this case.
The arrest of the actor appeared imminent in view of the statement made by Advocate
General Goolam Vahanvati, that section 304 IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to
murder) would be applied in this case. The maximum punishment under this is 10 years
rigorous imprisonment or a fine or both.
The matter has been adjourned to November to decide the applicability of law.
