Srinagar: Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked and indiscriminate shelling on
forward villages in border town of Uri in Baramulla district, apparently to push in
armed militants, official sources said on October 7.
Pakistani troops fired mortars and artillery shells in Kamalkote area throughout
last night to give fire-cover to the sneaking militants, the sources said.
The sources said troops guarding the line of control (LoC) also fired in
retaliation. However, there was no report of any casualty or damage on the either
side, they added.
The cross-border shelling stopped on October 7 morning, the sources said adding
security forces fanned out in different directions to scuttle any attempt of
militants to infiltrate into the valley.
Eleven residential houses were partially damaged by Pakistani shelling in Kamalkote
and adjoining areas last week.
