Gandhinagar: Thirteen days after the gates of the regal Akshardham Swaminarayan
temple were closed since the September 24 terrorists' attack, devotees were allowed
inside on the first day of Navratri on October 7.
"The gates were thrown open at 09:34 hours (IST) after the traditional aarti and
shanti path in presence of senior saint, Sant Ishwarcharan Swami," a spokesman of
the temple said.
There were streams of devotees including women and children walking in with folded
hands as mark of respect to Lord Swaminarayan, founder of one of the fastest growing
religious sects of the Hindus.
The shanti path was followed by religious discourses, including "jan mangal
namavali", the spokesman said.
The exhibition hall, situated on the left hand side of the main shrine, was also
thrown open this morning, he said.
Armed Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel stood guarding at strategic
locations, keeping a closer view to ensure safety and security of the devotees and
the sacred place.
Prior to September 24, arms were not allowed inside the 25 acre temple premises,
considered a premier pilgrimage centre in the region.
