Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress on October 7 accused the Narendra Modi government, which
has completed a year in office, of turning the state into a "new Kashmir" and
bringing in utter "despair and darkness".
"You have made Gujarat into a second Kashmir," Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee
(GPCC) president Shankersinh Vaghela said while commenting on Modi government's
completion of a year in office.
Referring to Modi as "not a mere common man" but someone who has been "cruel" to
Gujarat, Vaghela told reporters, "Terrorism is the only achievement of his
government."
Asked to comment on Modi's comparison of Congress leaders' statements with Pakistani
President Gen Pervez Musharraf, he said such "immature remarks are only inviting
terrorism in Gujarat".
"If Modi is so much irritated about Musharraf, he can ask Prime Minister Atal Behari
Vajpayee to attack Pakistan."
All India Congress Committee (AICC) observer Suresh Pachouri said, "It was Vajpayee
government which gave red carpet welcome to Musharraf and ended with nothing in
hand."
Vaghela, a former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary, who quit Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) in late 90s, challenged the saffron party to list out their
achievements in fulfilling the "1800 odd election promises made four years
back".
He said while the development works had been derailed and state's Information
Technology (IT) sector made a downslide journey from its significant leap,
BJP's "another achievement has been to herald the new culture of overdraft for the
state".
Dismissing "gaurav yatra" as an "election yatra", he said it "will have no impact on
the electorate's mind".
