Tuesday, October 8 2002 19:06 Hrs (IST)

Vadodara: Police on October 8 arrested Razzaue Kurkur, one of the key accused in the February 27 Godhra train carnage, taking the total number of those arrested in the case to 68, police said.

Kurkur, a tea vendor at the Godhra railway station who had been absconding since the carnage, would be produced in the court later in the day, Railway DSP J K Bhatt told reporters.

Those arrested so far in this case included disqualified president of Godhra civic body Mohammed Hussain Kalota and three other disqualified councillors while 55 accused were absconding, Bhatt said.

Kurkur's close associate Mohammed Hanif Bhatuk, who was also allegedly involved in burning alive 59 Ram Sevaks in S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express at Godhra station, was arrested in Godhra in July.

On the basis of the information provided by him, police nabbed Kurkur, Bhatt said.
