Srinagar: Acting chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Javid Ahmad Mir was
detained along with four other party activists as police scuttled a plan of Hurriyat
Conference to stage an anti-poll demonstration on October 8, official sources said.
Mir and his five senior party activists were picked up by police from their houses
in different parts of the city on October 7 night, the sources said.
Police also raided the Rajbagh office of Islamic Students League and Muslim League,
both constituents of 23-party Hurriyat Conference, around midnight and carried out
searches.
However, on one was arrested during the raids, the sources said.
JKLF, also a constituent of Hurriyat, has planned to stage a demonstration outside
its headquarters at Maisuma in heart of Srinagar against holding of Assembly
elections, the fourth phase of which began on October 8.
Police parties raided the residences of Mir at Chotabazar, Mohammad Saleem Nanaji
(Natipora), Mohammad Sidiq Shah and Bashir Ahmad (both Barbarshah) and Shabir Ahmad
Khan (Shutrashahi) and lodged them at the concerned police stations.
