Ultras trigger bomb blast as polling begins in Kashmir

Doda: Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans and an ultra were killed and five injured as ultras triggered a landmine blast in Doda town soon after the commencement of polling for the fourth and final phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections on October 8 morning, a senior official said.

A file photograph of bomb blast in Kashmir He said militants who had planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near the polling station detonated it and opened fire on the polling station at 07:20 hours (IST) in the Town hall area of the city, Deputy Commissioner Basharat Ahmad Dar said.

Security forces retaliated and in the ensuing gunfight one ultra was killed, Dar said adding two CRPF jawans were also seriously injured.

Two militants have been spotted and entire area has been cordoned off, Dar said.

The senior superintendent of police said the militants belong to Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit.

Those dead has been identified as D S Arde and constable Ramesh Kumar.

The injured have been identified as SDO, special police officer of J-K police, Gautam Singh, Hamid, Rustom and Sahid Salim.

Sniffer dogs and special police commandos assisted by Army have launched a massive search and cordon operation in the town where polling resumed after some time.
