Jammu: Pakistani troops resorted to heavy mortar shelling in Kargil and Nowshera
sectors in Jammu and Kashmir since October 7 evening, Defence sources said in Jammu
on October 8.
Targeting the forward Defence positions in Kargil sector, Pakistani troops used
heavy calibre guns and also fired mortar shells from 6.30 pm (IST) on October 7 to 3
am (IST) on October 8, the sources said.
Indian troops also retaliated effectively and the exchange of fire between both
sides continued for more than eight hours, the sources said, adding however there
were no casualties or damage on Indian side.
Pakistani troops from across the line of control (LoC) also resorted to small arms
firing in Siachen glacier area of Ladakh region for one and a half hours on October
7 evening.
Reports from Rajouri district said the troops also fired about 40 to 50 82-mm mortar
bombs in Nowshera and Bhawani sectors on October 7. However no damage was caused on
the Indian side, the sources said.
Intermittent small arms firing between two sides was also reported at several places
along International Border in Jammu and Kathua districts since October 7, they said.
