Shahrukh, Salman, Preity witnesses in Shah case
Tuesday, October 8 2002 19:31 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Actor Salman Khan, embroiled in a hit and run case, will be examined as witness along with other film stars in the case of alleged nexus of Bollywood with underworld, the trial court was informed on October 8.

Salman Khan, Preiti Zinta, Sharukh Khan, Rakesh Roshan and Mahesh Manjrekar are among the Bollywood personalities who will be examined as witnesses on October 9 onwards in the case involving film financier Bharat Shah.

Public Prosecutor Rohini Salian on October 8 submitted a schedule of witnesses to the designated judge A P Bhangale, in which the names of these personalities figured.

However, Salman may not be examined on October 9 as he is already in police custody in an accident case.

The prosecution on October 8 produced Ratan Jain, owner of Venus Cassettes Ltd, as witness in the case.

However, he was not examined as defence counsel objected saying prosecution had not furnished his name in the list of witnesses and hence they were not prepared with the recording of evidence.

Defence counsel Majid Memon and S M Chimade referred to a High Court ruling, which directed the trial court to submit list of witnesses.

The court upheld the argument of defence counsel and disallowed the examination of Jain.

He will now be examined after October 14 as he is going out of town on October 9.
