BJP will stick to its ideology, asserts party chief
Tuesday, October 8 2002 14:30 Hrs (IST)

Bharatiya Janata Party president Venkaiah Naidu Ahmedabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Venkaiah Naidu on October 8 said the party should aim at getting 300 seats on its own in next Lok Sabha election to bring in important legislations without any hurdle, even as he asserted that the saffron party would "never give up its ideology but would neither impose it on others".

"Come what may we will never give up our ideology but as head of the coalition we are duty bound to abide by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) agenda," Naidu said while addressing a 'sankalp sammelan' of the party here.

Urging the party cadres to gear themselves up for the polls, he said in 2004, BJP on its own should aim at getting 300 seats in the Lok Sabha to bring about changes and important legislation without any hindrance.

"It is a tough task but not impossible," he said adding, the party should also ensure that with its allies NDA bagged two-third majority in the Lok Sabha.

Attacking the Congress, the communists and other Opposition parties for their "pseudo secularism", he sarcastically described Congress as a "duplicate Congress" with no original leader both at national and state level.

"Similar to its leadership crisis at the Centre, the Congress has turned towards a former BJP man in Shankarsinh Vaghela to meet the challenge in Gujarat," he said.

"Congress has no specific agenda and the Communist parties are only playing a 'B' team to the Congress," he said.

Referring to the recent anti-conversion ordinance in Tamil Nadu, he said it was a good step and "those opposing the ordinance only want to encourage conversion, which would increase communal tension".
