Waknaghat (Himachal Pradesh): The successful completion of four-phased elections in
Jammu and Kashmir is a "triumph for Democracy" and the world community has accepted
the fairness of the polls, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani said on October 9.
"It does not matter which party wins these elections. It is a big victory for
Democracy. India has won these elections and Democracy has triumphed," Advani told
reporters after inaugurating the first private sector IT University in this village,
about 30 km from Shimla.
Asserting that India would have "a decisive victory" over terrorism, he said the
scheduled elections in Pakistan was a "contrast" to the Jammu and Kashmir polls as
an authoritarian regime was holding the elections there as against a Democratic
India.
"Two of its (Pakistan's) former Premiers have been barred from contesting the
upcoming elections."
He said the world community has accepted that the elections were held in a free and
fair manner despite a spate of terrorist attacks to disrupt the polls.
The situation in which the Jammu and Kashmir polls were held was "very challenging"
and cross-border terrorism was "aimed at creating disturbances in elections and
disrupt the Democratic process".
Despite all such attempts, an overall 40 per cent turnout was witnessed in these
elections, he said.
