3 pilgrims killed, 48 hurt as bus falls into 'ghat'

Nashik: Three persons were killed on the spot and 48 others, including women and children, were injured when a private bus fell into a deep ravine in Hatgarh 'ghat' near Borgaon in Surgana taluk of Nashik district early on October 9, police said.

The bus skidded off the road after the driver lost control, plunging the vehicle into the ravines at around 3.15 am (IST), police added.

The bus, carrying pilgrims from Malegaon, Kalvan and Jalgaon, was returning to Nashik from 'Badrinath yatra' when the mishap occurred.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Phakira Dadaji Kale (75) resident of Malegaon (Nashik) and Dayaram Babu Dhokle (70) Jalgaon, police said.

Of the injured, one in serious condition, was admitted to Nashik civil hospital while others were treated at the rural hospital near Borgaon.

Senior police officials have rushed to the spot, police added.
