Copenhagen: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on October 9 night asked the
European Union to address the concerns of developing countries by dismantling high
agricultural subsidies and other non-tariff barriers and signalled economic reforms
would not be reversed.
Addressing the EU business leaders, Vajpayee asserted there can be no "shock therapy
approach" to India's economic reforms which were being implemented with a "human
face".
"The Indian economy is often identified with the elephant. But once they actually
start moving, the momentum is very difficult to divert, slow, stop or reverse," he
said.
The Prime Minister's remarks came ahead of the third India-EU Summit on October
10.
