Lashkar threatens to disrupt Puja festivities
Wednesday, October 9 2002 20:56 Hrs (IST)

Kolkata: Pakistan-based militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba has reportedly threatened to carry out terrorist attacks in the metropolis during the four days of Durga Puja festivities, beginning on October 12.

The mass-circulated Bengali daily, 'Ananda Bazar Patrika', on October 9 said in a front-page report that a person identifying himself as Abu Bakar of LeT warned that the group would carry out attacks during the pujas in retaliation for the arrest of a Lashkar member from the Sealdah railway station on October 6.

The caller, speaking in Urdu-Hindi mix, also claimed that some members of LeT were already in the metropolis to carry out attacks during the Puja revelry when people in thousands, including those from the suburbs and districts, congregate in Kolkata for darshan at the community puja pandals.
