Suspected MCC bid to loot arms foiled in Bihar
Thursday, October 10 2002 17:31 Hrs (IST)

Nawada (Bihar): Suspected activists of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) made an abortive bid to loot firearms after attacking a police picket in Bihar's Nawada district on October 9 night.

The police said that the extremists fired indiscriminately on the Virnama police picket in the Kashichak police station area in a bid to loot the arms stockpile, forcing the policemen to return the fire.

The exchange of fire continued for several hours in which over 100 rounds of bullets were fired after which the extremists fled the scene without succeeding in their mission, the police said.

All police stations in this Naxalites-prone district had been put on alert to guard against any untoward incident, the police said.
