Militants free 2 kidnapped journalists in Manipur

Imphal: Two journalists kidnapped by Kuki militants were freed on October 10 at Pallel area in Manipur's Chandel district, official sources said.

However, two others who were kidnapped along with the journalists from Sinam village area in the district on October 8 were still being held hostage by United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) whose militants kidnapped them, the sources said.

It was not yet known whether the militants demanded ransom for freeing the two whose whereabouts were still unknown.

Y Arun of 'Eastern Panorama' and Laithangbam Iboyaima of 'The Hindu' were let off at Pallel area, about 45 Km South East of Imphal on October 10 morning, they said.

Earlier, president of All Manipur Working Journalists Union W Shyamjai who rushed to Chandel district after the kidnapping had appealed to the captors to free the four abducted persons.
