Srinagar: A senior National Conference (NC) leader and MP Shaheen Siddiqui on
October 10 said the party should be prepared to sit in the Opposition in the Jammu
and Kashmir Assembly.
"This is the day of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Congress. NC has to
see a newer role as an Opposition party. By looking at the trends which is beyond
and below our expectations, the only role we have is to sit in the Opposition,"
Siddqui told a news channel.
On Omar Abdullah taking over as the party chief shortly before the elections, he
said, "presently it might look as a disadvantage but it will be an advantage in the
long term".
In a candid statement he said party has to look at the reasons for the imminent
collapse of the NC and find ways for revamp of the party.
On reasons for the poor performance in the polls, he said it is due to sympathy for
the smaller parties, anti-incumbency factor and governance.
"We have been under absolute pressure for the last six years, our cadres have been
threatened by militancy," he added.
