Thursday, October 10 2002 09:09 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Counting of votes in Srinagar and Anantnag districts was delayed on October 10 as the poll staff at both the district headquarters were still in the process of making arrangements.

Counting in Srinagar was delayed by more than half an hour and in Anantnag it will start at 09:00 hours (IST) as the poll staff were in the process of making arrangements for the same, officials at the counting centres said.

There are 10 constituencies in Srinagar district including Ganderbal from where president of National Conference Omar Abdullah is seeking election for the first time.

The officials said the counting which was scheduled to begin at 08:00 hours (IST) was delayed as the staff was still in process of getting electronic voting machines from the strong rooms. However, officials maintained that the counting will start as soon as EVM's were in place.

Security forces deployed at the counting centres in Anantnag did not allow media persons inside the centres saying the counting will start at 09:00 hours (IST).
