New Delhi: British High Commissioner Rob Young on October 10 night welcomed the "successful completion" of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and lauded the efforts of the Election Commission and the voters who cast their ballot despite threats and intimidation.

In a statement, Young hoped that this would be the first step in a broader process that would bring peace to the region.

"The people of Kashmir have shown they want to pursue the path of peace," he said.
