New Delhi: Close on the heels of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) attacking the
Vajpayee government, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has said that it was nearing a
breaking point with the BJP as it was feeling "very disillusioned, deeply
disappointed and deeply hurt" by its policies vis-a-vis Hindus and terrorism.
BJP spokesman and MP Sunil Shastri, however, said the BJP was bound by the NDA's
Agenda for governance and differences of opinion were natural in a Democracy, which
can be sorted out.
"These are not only differences of opinion. There is a serious disagreement as we
really feel that they have not done anything for the Hindus irrespective of the NDA
agenda," VHP president Vishnu Hari Dalmiya said participating in Karan Thapar's 'The
India Debate' programme to be telecast on NewsAsia channel on October 11.
Stating that the VHP had begun to understand that it should not expect
anything "from the BJP", he said, "we are very disillusioned, deeply disappointed
and deeply hurt" by the party.
He said a "major rift" had erupted between VHP and BJP and replied in the
affirmative when asked whether the two organisations were "nearing a breaking
point".
"We understand BJP is bound by the NDA agenda on the (Ram) temple issue. But there
are several issues where there is no conflict with the NDA agenda and nothing was
done," Dalmiya said.
Meanwhile, the three point country-wide programme of the VHP's Ram Janamabhoomi
temple movement was formally launched on October 9.
Weekly "kirtan" (devotional songs) and regular monthly Sri Ram Yagya would be held
on purnima day, he said adding that seers and saints would lead the jan jagran yatra
from the block to tehsil level from November 15 to November 23 next to arouse public
awareness regarding the Ayodhya temple movement in different parts of the
country.
