Bangalore: An emotional Chief Minister S M Krishna set foot on his home constituency
of Maddur in Mandya district on the fourth day of his padayatra in the Cauvery delta
and said spell of rain is beginning to bring down tension between his state and
Tamil Nadu on the vexed issue.
As he entered his Assembly segment, Krishna said, "I have repeatedly said only
Mother Nature can apply soothing balm to the tension between the two states. I am
glad that application of soothing balm has begun".
Rain have lashed many parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, especially Cauvery delta,
and Krishna described it as a "very happy development".
"I am given to understand that satellite pictures and forecast for the next seven
days seem to be encouraging. There are reports of heavy rains at
places. This is a very happy development. I believe there was extensive rain in
Tamil Nadu, which should reduce tension between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka," he
said.
Krishna mingled freely with people who cheered him and later told reporters near
Maddur, "Response to the 'pada yatra' is so overwhelming that what little mental
reservation I had, have been ejected out of my system. I am convinced more than ever
before on the fourth day of my walk....I feel vindicated," he said.
