Islamabad: Cricket hero Imran Khan has won a seat in Pakistan's national Assembly,
the Election Commission announced on October 11.
Khan won by a margin of 6,000 votes in his home seat of Mianwali, 200 km South West
of the capital in Punjab province.
It is the first time Khan's six-year-old Tehreek-i-Insaf (Justice Movement) has won
a seat, and none of the party's 89 other candidates were expected to pick up a seat.
Khan campaigned heavily on an anti-corruption and social justice platform.
He reversed his original support for President Pervez Musharraf, accusing him of
backing politicians from the Pakistan Muslim League-Quiad (PML-Q), accused of
involvement in a massive loan scandal.
